I am PSYCHED to bring you guys a post today on where to find the best donuts in the U.S.!
Something I look forward to trying in all the cities I visit are donut shops. Call me crazy, but I can always count on there being donut shops to try because WHO DOESN’T LOVE DONUTS? They are all the rage nowadays and the craziest, most outrageous flavors are being created. Naturally, I’m all about it.
I’m very easy to please, but a simple grocery store donut will not do, no no no. I am content with a glazed or sprinkles donut; in fact, I will almost always order one sprinkles donut! However, when someone uses the words “too sweet” or “too much” to describe a donut, I can’t comprehend. The limit does not exist. I could eat donuts every day and would never grow weary of their glory.
With that being said, all of these places had both crazy flavors and something for those who lean towards the simpler side of life. I can never order only one donut (who does that??), so I typically get a more tame donut and then jump all over one with fun toppings or a crazy filling. Without further ado, I bring you my guide on where to find the best donuts in the U.S.
All my donut dreams and more came true here. If you’re looking for the all around best experience, be sure to head to the 12 South location because it is ADORABLE. Plus, there is plenty of seating outside if you’d like to enjoy your donut out there. I was a ravenous beast and ate my donuts solo with my hands as everyone around me enjoyed them with a knife and fork…again, who does that?! Anyway, these donuts are simply amazing because they are croissant/donut style with a rich crème filling. You will most likely be satisfied after one, but get two because I know you will want another. You’re welcome.
I still have visions of the raspberry champagne donut dancing in my head and I am not kidding. These donuts were massive and amazing and everything good in life. For a donut shop, Donut Districts was pretty big, too! We didn’t have any issues finding seating and had a big booth to ourselves, perfect for when we needed to collapse in a heap of fullness
We came after the Portland Marathon in Fall of 2016, tortured everyone in the line around us with our heinous stench and then proceeded to gobble them up in the car in record time. Granted, anything probably would have tasted great at the moment, I will give you that, but I promise this place still needs to be on your list because they’ve got some pretty unique flavors that need to make their way into your mouth.
We trekked through practically a monsoon in order to get to Dough in Brooklyn, and thank goodness these donuts were more than worth it. I ordered the Nutella-filled, powder sugar covered donut and happily sprayed the powder everywhere. They’ve also got donut holes the size of your hand and you don’t want to miss out on those either.
Dallas knows donuts. In fact, I’ve got a post in my drafts right now dedicated solely to donut shops in Dallas, there are THAT many great ones to write about. But I have to say, my favorite donut leads back to here. The Zooroppa, a donut topped with circus animal cookies, sprinkles, marshmallows and icing, brings a smile to my face and a dance to my body every time, no lie.
There are multiple Stan’s Donuts locations across Chicago and you cannot go wrong with any of them. I’m always a cruller fan, in addition to sprinkles, and I think THIS was definitely one of the best I have ever had because the outside was perfectly crunchy but the whole donut managed to stay moist. I am quite literally drooling thinking about it now.
You have not lived until you have been to Gordough’s in Austin. Their slogan is “Big Fat Donuts,” and in addition to that they’re fried with the CRAZY toppings, like brownie batter, Oreos, gummy worms, strawberries, etc. Anything you can think of that is sweet, is probably on top of one of these. I am obsessed.
Union Square Donuts is the donut shop responsible for showing me that donuts and bacon really do work well together. I’ve yet to meet another combo that works as well as the one here does, but now I am not as skeptical. I liked these donuts because they were fairly light and they were all glazed, no matter what flavor!
I saw the panda donut and I needed the panda donut, simple as that. If it weren’t for social media, would a place like this thrive? Probably not, but these donuts are one hundo p worth the hype, peeps. My friend and I got half a dozen, wiping them out between the two of us. The fruit loop and cinnamon toast topped donuts are not to be missed.
If I could’ve broken into a sprint to get into this storefront faster, I would have. The giant hot pink sprinkle donut outside is a dead giveaway into what is waiting for you inside, and also foreshadows the giant size of their donuts. But don’t worry – you can also buy a normal size donut. I got the cake batter donut with an Oreo on the inside (!!!!) and wish I’d had room in my stomach for more.
